Position Opening: Associate Director for Mission Advancement
Reporting Relationship: Executive Director

Position Objective

It is the task of this position to make the mission conscious in the minds and hearts of all. To attend to the systemic changes necessary to facilitate the mission. To create programs for people and offices in their ongoing attempt to integrate the mission into their daily activity. To cultivate a constituency of support for the advocacy and service programs of Catholic Charities. Through strategic marketing communication, the associate director for mission advancement grows the number of constituents and elicits increasing support for the agency. The emphasis of the associate director is on expanding the number of those committed to and engaged in the mission of Catholic Charities, as demonstrated through financial giving, volunteering, and engaging in advocacy.

Qualifications

  1. Deep commitment to Catholic Charities’ core mission, vision, values and goals, and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues, partners and constituents.
  2. An undergraduate degree and no less then five years’ professional experience in resource development management and planning plus at least two (and preferably three or more) other areas typically included in mission advancement, e.g., marketing communications, media relations, electronic communication, major gift cultivation and volunteer development.
  3. Significant knowledge of and applied experience in resource development techniques, including resource development planning and major donor cultivation and relationship management strategy.
  4. Experience in senior management or other relevant experience in leading a team of seasoned professionals in ways that maximize individual initiative and effective collaboration.
  5. Demonstrated success in designing and implementing strategies to reach new audiences, and in increasing constituency commitment, involvement and support.
  6. Superior verbal and written communications skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of audiences.
  7. Knowledge of communications and marketing theory.
  8. Experience using electronic media to market ideas, products or organizations.
  9. Proficiency in relevant information technology applications.
  10. Working knowledge of church structures; familiarity with the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City highly desirable.
  11. Ability to work effectively within a Roman Catholic faith-based social service agency.
  12. The ability to work closely, collegially and productively with other members of Catholic Charities’ senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the development and execution of the Catholic Charities’ resource development plan, effecting significant growth in Catholic Charities’ constituency and its financial resources.
  2. Develop and implement fund-raising priorities, gift income goals and strategies to achieve them.
  3. Build a strategy to cultivate major donors, and guide the Catholic Charities Executive Director in seeking and securing major gifts.
  4. Lead the Catholic Charities Mission Advancement Department in developing and attaining objectives in the areas of parish and community outreach, communications and resource development, aimed at expanding the resources available to advocacy and service programs.
  5. Supervise Public Information Director and staff
  6. Ensure appropriate training, staff development and performance evaluation
  7. Hold directors accountable for meeting objectives, for the quality of outcomes and for effective collaboration with colleagues throughout the agency
  8. Provide oversight for Catholic Charities’ strategic communication.
  9. Ensure the development of strategic messages and communication vehicles appropriate to each constituency.
  10. Coordinate and enhance effective interpretation and collaboration with the church bodies and other institutional partners.
  11. Provide for outreach to public and religious media.
  12. Participate as an effective member of the senior management team of the agency.
  13. Maintain clear and consistent communication and collaboration with the Executive Director.
  14. Communicate positively the decisions and guidance of the president and the leadership team to the staff of the mission advancement department.
  15. Participate as senior management in the agencywide planning and budgeting process, coordinating the input of the mission advancement department.
  16. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
