Parish Outreach and Program Development

Answering the Gospel call to care for the least among us, the POPD staff, in partnership with parishes, responds to and supports the Church’s mission of charity and justice as it is lived out in a variety of ministries. Education and action are rooted in scripture and Catholic Social Teaching. Community organizing is fostered in the parish cluster model. A unique collaboration exists between the social ministry office and the Archdiocesan Council of St. Vincent de Paul. Emergency assistance is provided through the St. Vincent de Paul Downtown Conference funded by Catholic Charities.

JustFaith

A new program for personal and community transformation so as to live our faith more radically.   For more information call our office.

Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes is a meal on wheels program for people living with HIV/AIDS. Meals are prepared and delivered by a team of volunteers. Recipients receive meals twice a week in their homes. This service is provided at no cost.

Faith Community Nursing

A parish nurse is a registered nurse who ministers to the whole person - physically, socially, emotionally, but with special emphasis on the spiritual dimension. They serve as health educators, personal health counselors, resources for church and community services, advocates for those in need and facilitators of volunteer health ministers. The program is a collaborative effort of parishes, Catholic Charities, Schools of Nursing and hospitals.

St. Vincent de Paul

Because we believe that the St. Vincent de Paul Society has a long history in parishes of meeting the needs of the poor, the social ministry department maintains a unique collaboration with the Archdiocesan Council of St. Vincent de Paul. Catholic Charities provides a Council Office with secretarial assistance, publishing, printing, training opportunities, referral of community resources, and the funding of the Downtown Conference. The Vincentian Conferences, composed of lay volunteers, respond to emergency requests in the parishes on a daily basis.
