The 2007 St. Patrick's Day Grand Marshal is Ed Kelley, who will be recognized at the St. Patrick's Day Ball on March 16 and at the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17. Congratulations to Mr. Kelley. Ed Kelley was named editor of The Oklahoman in April 2003, succeeding the late Edward L. Gaylord. As editor he oversees both the news coverage and the opinion pages of the newspaper. He is a career employee of The Oklahoman and has filled a variety of editing and reporting positions since joining the newspaper as a summer intern in 1974. He has served as editorial page editor, managing editor, Washington bureau chief, city editor, business editor and state roving reporter. He was named national Editor of the Year in 1996 by the Washington-based National Press Foundation for directing the newspaper's coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2003. He served as a juror to the Pulitzer Prizes in 1998. He is a member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and is a member of the professional advisory board at the Gaylord College of Journalism at the University of Oklahoma. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from OU, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1975. He was reared in Perry, where he got his first taste of newspapering by writing about sports events for his hometown newspaper, the Perry Daily Journal. He and his wife, Carole, live in Oklahoma City and have three children. |
