Problem – Our state has approximately 3,944 unsheltered individuals who are food insecure.
Solution - Catholic Charities hands out between 200-350 snack packs a month to those in the community who walk in our doors hungry.
Problem - Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ do not have access to clean water and suffer from the lack of this basic necessity.
Solution - Your gifts provide a water station for our clients entering our lobby where they can fill up their own canisters as well as bottled water to around 40 people per day.
Problem- There are over 2.3 million people incarcerated in our country. Some are “imprisoned” by mental illness and addiction.
Solution – We have several members of staff and church leaders who visit prisoners and take them gifts and send well wishes from the community. We also offer counseling to those “imprisoned” by mental illness and addiction. No one is perfect and without need of forgiveness.
Problem - Those who are sick are often forgotten or avoided.
Solution - SSM Health and Cardinal Community House have partnered with Catholic Charities to provide a respite shelter for recently discharged patients who are homeless. This service provides them a place to recuperate, while our case management program allows them to find transitional housing once they are released from respite care.
Problem – There are some people without the financial means to bury their loved ones.
Solution - Catholic Charities has gifted burial plots for those who did not have the financial means. The bodies of the dead must be treated with respect and charity, as it honors the children of God who are temples of the Holy Spirit. Our chapel has also hosted memorial services for clients and for those who have a lost a loved one.
Problem - Financial hardship is the number one reason people come in the doors of Catholic Charities.
Solution- We provide items such as clothing, cars, furniture, household items and used appliances that are then handed out to families in need. We also provide legal aid, emergency rent and utility assistance and help during natural disasters.
Problem - There are many circumstances that could lead to someone becoming a person without a home.
Solution - Last year we housed two women per week. Your gifts allow us to reach those without homes, affirming their worth and helping them seek peace in the face of many challenges including deposits, utility fees, appliances, furniture and so much more
