OKLAHOMA CITY– On Nov. 30, Catholic Charities will hold an online fundraiser food drive for GivingTuesday titled “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Last year over $2.5 billion was raised by non-profits nationally.

“Many people are familiar with the song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, a song about finding hope and going to a place where dreams come true. I was inspired that our organization really does make dreams come true by providing hope to those in our community who wish for better days,” said Catholic Charities Executive Director Patrick Raglow.

“Last year, Catholic Charities distributed more than 2,500 snack packs to the food insecure in our community,” Raglow said. “This year we are asking our community to help us keep our food resources stocked as we strive for these snack packs to provide a nutritious, supplemental meal option for those experiencing food insecurity.”

On Nov. 30, donors may contribute $20 or more for GivingTuesday through the Catholic Charities website or on Facebook. The agency’s goal is to raise $5,000 in one day to purchase enough snack pack items for clients for a full year.

KiZE Concepts has agreed to donate 2,500 KiZE Bars to the Catholic Charities effort. Jeff Ragan, KiZE Concepts founder and CEO, said, “Not only are we wanting to provide a quality nutritional supplement to the snack packs at Catholic Charities, KiZE is also hoping to support our community by offering jobs to people in need of work.” He added that KiZE Concepts is hiring people with barriers to employment who are struggling to find jobs.
